Artist Information and History
L. Gina Canter, an artist of Scots-Irish and Cherokee descent, resides in Barnardsville, N.C. Working primarily
in acrylic and pencil, her ongoing works include three distinct series; Cherokee Legends, Appalachian Folk Life,
and Celtic Legends. Through these series of paintings she strives to preserve and honor the history and culture
of her ancestors as well as Appalachian heritage of the past. She is deeply committed to her theme of capturing
the legends and lore of the Appalachians in her paintings as true reflections of the land and its inhabitants.
Her focus for the future is to further explore the various cultural aspects of Appalachian heritage through her
paintings to show the deep seated roots of the people to their land, folklore, handicrafts, music and dance.
